Kính thưa quý ông bà, quý phụ huynh học sinh, quý anh chị thân hữu La San.

Thiên Chúa cho mỗi người chúng ta sinh ra đời như một cuộc hành trình tiến về Nước Trời, nhất là được hồng phúc làm con Chúa và được Chúa tuyển chọn để phục vụ Người, như Chúa trao gửi những nén bạc cho mỗi người để sinh lợi cho cuộc hành trình này.

Chúa cũng đã mời gọi chúng tôi phục vụ Người qua ơn gọi Dòng với Đặc Sủng Giáo Dục Kitô và Nhân Bản cho giới trẻ, nhất là cho Các Trẻ Em Nghèo.

Ước mơ thực hiện công việc tông đồ của Dòng nơi đất khách quê người quả là một thách đố lớn lao. Trong nhiều năm suy tư, cầu nguyện tìm Ý Chúa, Ngài đã dẫn đưa chúng tôi đến nơi Đất Hứa và đã tạo điều kiện để tậu mãi được cơ sở đó là "“Nguyện Đường La San"” đã được dùng vào công việc tông đồ từ tháng 5 năm 1995 đến ngày nay.

Khi tậu được Nguyện Đường La San, chúng tôi đã cố gắng tu bổ, sắp xếp cho thích hợp với nhu cầu tông đồ và các sinh hoạt giới trẻ mà Chúa đã gửi đến cho hội Dòng để phục vụ.

Cơ sở đã xây dựng gần 100 năm, không đủ điều kiện đòi hỏi của thành phố San José hiện nay. Để thông qua những luật lệ khá phức tạp của thành phố, Nguyện Đường La San cần phải "“up to code"”. Công việc này nhà Dòng đã cố gắng trên 15 năm qua mà chưa có kết quả. Vì thế, chúng tôi mong ước xây dựng lại cơ sở này trong sự phó thác vào bàn tay quan phòng của Chúa, qua sự bảo trợ của Thánh Cả Giuse, mà trong thánh lễ đầu tiên ngày 19-3-1995 đã dâng lên Ngài Nguyện Đường này.

Vì tương lai con cháu chúng ta, nhất là trong môi trường sống của xã hội ngày nay thiếu lành mạnh, nên nhu cầu giáo dục cho giới trẻ, đặc biệt là cho con cháu chúng ta thật là khẩn thiết. Chúng tôi thiết tha kêu gọi lòng hảo tâm của quý vị, tùy theo khả năng của mình với câu châm ngôn: "Một cây làm chẳng nên non, ba cây chụm lại thành hòn núi cao"”. Chúng tôi hy vọng sự hy sinh đóng góp của quý vị sẽ giúp chúng tôi hoàn tất công việc xây dựng lớn lao và hệ trọng này đó cũng là sứ mạng giáo dục mà Dòng luôn hướng tới.

Những khó khăn về ý định xây cất Nguyện Đường La San trong 15 năm qua:

1. Năm 1995, khi vừa tậu mãi Nguyện Đường La San, Frère Phong đã làm việc với kiến trúc sư xin phép sửa chữa, tu bổ để có giấy phép cho những sinh hoạt của Dòng thay vì phải dùng giấy phép của nhà thờ Tin Lành trước. Sau nhiều tháng làm việc, công việc không có khả quan nên phải ngưng.
2. July 9, 2002, chúng tôi đã làm việc với kiến trúc sư John Lum và anh Thomas Nguyễn. Sau nhiều tháng làm việc, công trình cũng không hy vọng đạt được mục tiêu nên phải ngưng. Công việc này cũng đã tốn một số tiền.
3. Năm 2003, chúng tôi cùng với kỹ sư và kiến trúc sư thân hành đến County, trình bày về những dự án muốn sửa chữa Nguyện Đường La San. Sau khi nói chuyện với ba, bốn department khác nhau của County, ai nấy đều chóng mặt, nhức đầu vì luật lệ khó có thể thực hiện được!
4. Chúng tôi vẫn còn thao thức cưu mang ý định xây cất lại Nguyện Đường La San. Có lần gặp Frère Phong và ngỏ ý với Frère về dự tính này, Frère nói: “Tôi xin lạy Sơ!” Quá tam 3 lần! Đây là lần thứ tư khởi công với dự án xây cất vào năm 2006. Cho tới hôm nay, công việc đã diễn tiến khá tốt đẹp. Hy vọng công việc xây dựng sẽ được khởi công vào mùa hè 2012 này.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Life on earth is a journey toward the Kingdom of God in which everyone of us is commissioned to serve God and humanity in our own unique vocation.

As members of the La Salle Sisters, we are conscious of our special calling and have courageously responded to a special mandate given by our Lord, namely, to give human and Christian education to children and young people, especially the underprivileged.

Carrying out our Congregation’s mission in our new home, the United States of America, has proven to be tremendously challenging. However, after years of praying and seeking God’s will, we had the financial resources which allowed us to purchase a facility in San Jose that has since been known as the "De La SalleChapel." This Chapel has been used for all apostolic ministries since May of 1995.

Since the beginning of its service, the Chapel has undergone a numberof renovations and been maximizing its use to meet the need of our apostolic ministry and to serve the youth of our local community.

The purchased facility was built on an existing structure that is almost a hundred years old and has since no longer met the modern ordinance and building codes required by the City of San Jose. Meeting the city’s requirements and all its codes are necessary for the Chapel continuing its operation. However, all of our 15-year efforts to bring the Chapel to the operational standard have not resulted in our favor. At this time, we believe that the building of the new facility on the current premise is utmost important to us and to our Congregation’s mission. We place our rebuilding plan of the facility under the protection of Saint Joseph whose patron we dedicated this facility on March 19, 1995.

In a society lacking moral, giving human and Christian education to young people is both our important mission and obligation. In order for us to respond to today’s challenge, we rely on your generosity, within your capacity, so that we can build a new facility in which generations of young people would be benefitted from our services. "Alone tree cannot make a forest, but three trees gathered together form a high hill," said a Vietnamese proverb. In the same way, we each can make a difference.

With this appeal, we would like you to know those challenges that we have faced during the past 15 years:

1. In 1995, after securing the ownership title of the La Salle Chapel, Frere Phong worked with the architect to obtain a repair permit in order to obtain our own operational permit, instead of using the existing permit from the previous Christian church ownership. After many months trying in vain, the application for the repair permit had to stop.
2. On July 9, 2002, we began the work with Mr. John Lum, architect, and Mr. Thomas Nguyen. After many months trying with no success, the task again had to stop despite some monetary expenses.
3. In 2003, at the County Planning Office, we, along with our engineer and architect, presented our La Salle Chapel repair plan to several departments. However, we left the County Planning Office without any achievement due to the inability to compliance with the ordinance and building codes.
4. Though facing many difficulties during the past 15 years, we are not giving up on our dream to build the new La Salle Chapel on the same premise. In 2006, we presented our plan to build the new facility and are still on track with the plan. It is our hope that the new facility will be finished and dedicated by the summer of 2013.
